Meet Tanya van der Walt

Tanya van der Walt is an Educational Psychologist based in Craighall Park, Johannesburg.

Tanya has vast experience working in the education sector. She started her career as an educator at Rand Girls School in Johannesburg. Here, she rose to the position of Head of Department in English, Life Skills, Afrikaans, Arts & Culture. Tanya also worked as a part time Assessor and Moderator at Milpark Business School in Cape Town.

Tanya uses different therapeutic techniques depending on the individual’s circumstances and their reason for being referred. Her main techniques include Play therapy, Creative expressive arts therapy, Eriksonian hypnosis, and Ego state hypnosis. She also uses Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT), and Narrative and Solution-based therapy to meet the needs of children, their parents and the family as a whole.

As a dedicated Educational Psychologist, Tanya’s greatest passion is helping children reach their goals and true potential. She guides children to relate to others and their environment in the most effective way. Often, children feel stuck; Tanya helps them deal with their frustrations, fears, and anxiety in healthy ways. Her educational psychology services focus on assisting children to gain a shift in perspective and understand themselves and others better. Tanya works holistically with the child, parents and teachers to find the ultimate learning solutions.
