Family therapy

Being part of a family unit comes with a unique set of challenges. Your family may be experiencing one or more of the following: parent and child conflict, sibling rivalry, grief, distress, trauma, or behavioural problems.

Whatever your concern is, family therapy can help resolve conflicts and improve your family's communication style. Therapy sessions can teach you skills to deepen family bonds and get through stressful times.

The benefits of family therapy

  • Enhanced communication
  • Improved problem solving
  • Deeper empathy
  • Reduced conflict
  • Better anger management skills
  • Improved understanding of family dynamics and patterns
  • Family members learn healthy boundaries

During therapy, family members won’t always agree with each other or like what they hear- this is not the point of therapy. The purpose of family therapy is to encourage everyone to express their thoughts and feelings openly. Tanya allows each family member to describe the problem and how it has affected them. After this, members of the family will acknowledge each other's emotional and psychological needs. Next, therapy will explore how to meet each person’s needs in their relationships with others.

Sessions typically last for about 50 minutes to an hour each. Family therapy is usually short term. However, after the initial meeting, Tanya will decide how many sessions she recommends for your family.
